Jenni McDade is a nationally certified master’s level counselor with over 30 years of experience and a licensed professional counselor candidate in the state of Colorado (LPCC). She worked as a volunteer counselor and then trainer at The Counseling Center in Boulder, received her Masters Degree from The University of Northern Colorado in the spring of 2001 and has since been in private practice.

From 2014 thru 2019, Jenni worked for Tru Hospice as a volunteer in both patient care and grief services.  She facilitated grief groups for Hospice and found a passion for working with private clients experiencing loss.

Nature of Counseling

In my private practice, I provide short and long-term counseling for issues related to life transitions, relationships, self-esteem, self-empowerment, divorce, parenting, blended families, communication skills, grief and loss, self-expression, depression and anxiety, and emotional, sexual and physical abuse. I have experience working with co-dependency, adult children of alcoholics, and adult children from dysfunctional families.

My work with Hospice has given me a deep compassion for those experiencing loss.  Though Hospice work focuses primarily on education and support for those experiencing the loss of a loved one, this work has increased my understanding of loss as a universal human experience at many junctures in life. These new insights inform my work with clients experiencing the many losses that arise in life: divorce, children leaving home, work or living changes, health and aging changes as well as the finality of death.

Divorce can be an extremely challenging life-transition. I have successfully helped many people navigate this intensely emotional time so that they emerge with dignity, self-respect and a clearer understanding of themselves and the lessons that relationship has provided. Working together, we create a clear and workable plan for positively moving forward in a new relationship with an ex-spouse and with sensitivity to the issues of co-parenting and helping children adjust to the many emotional, psychological, relationship and practical upheavals that can occur in their lives.

I have worked extensively with clients struggling with the effects of abuse, both as children and adults. In our work together, we identify the hurtful patterns and poor relationship choices that often result from the experience of abuse. As we unravel the hurtful programming and automatic and self-destructive thoughts that allow us to keep recreating this trauma in one way or another in our lives, anxiety, depression, anger, and low self-esteem begin to lift and self-respect is restored or perhaps even discovered for the first time. Once this shift occurs, clients find that they draw to themselves much more positive people and experiences. This both further reinforces, and teaches, healthier ways of being in the world. Old patterns of thinking and choosing are broken and, with increased self-awareness and renewed self-respect, rewarding patterns are created. As self-esteem continues to grow, clients discover their power and effectiveness in creating in their lives exactly what they think they deserve.

My therapy focus combines a practical, results-oriented approach with many years of personal and professional experience. By being deeply present with you in our work together, you allow me to understand and experience genuine compassion for your unique experience and to reflect back to you your world as it appears to you. In this safe and supportive environment, true healing occurs and you find new ways to get the results you want in your life. Often, for the first time in many years, you may find yourself truly comfortable in your own skin and deeply connected to your inner wisdom, power and joy.

Personal growth is a process that is facilitated with attention, awareness and insight. The struggles and challenges we encounter along life’s journey can spark a creative ability we each possess to grow in confidence and self-awareness and to more effectively create lives that are richly satisfying. From what appears to be chaos, confusion and wreckage, new growth can emerge, restoring balance and well-being. As this process unfolds in our work together, my clients find that I am an empowering ally as I offer you a unique perspective on your life, one that combines a view from the inside of your world looking out with a view from the outside looking in, through eyes of experience, understanding, and genuine compassion.
